Route NarrativesEach year the MS officials create a text file that describes the route. I have added these descriptions to each map page linked at the left. Here (below) is the Excel 2000 spread sheet with all this info if you would like to print your own copies. Remember, this file will be updated as the event approaches in order to take into account any minor route changes.
MapsWARNING: Rest Stop Positions are only approximate. If you are assigned to a rest stop, you will need to "patrol" the course in the general area of the rest stop looking for Porta-Potties and other paraphernalia that should indicate you have discovered your location. ALSO, if you download the Street Atlas files, be aware that sometimes it's just about impossible to get the program to draw the route correctly in dense city street patterns. So, keep your eyes on the ROAD and watch for route markings posted for the riders. Also, it is possible there will be last minute route changes that will not be posted here. If you are on the course and following the route markings posted for riders you can't go wrong. Maps provide a serious challenge on the net. To be useful they need to be detailed. To have enough detail to provide the kind of information most radio operators are looking for, the would have to be huge. So, I've decided to compromise a bit here. I've posted "my" Street Atlas mapdoc files and overview maps on the web pages, and I have also posted the MS official Brochure Maps (the ones distributed to the riders on the day of the event). The Street Atlas maps for each day are overview maps. For the details of the route you will need a copy of Delorme Street Atlas 8.0. If you have that program then you can download the Street Atlas Mapdoc which is linked directly below the map. With this map doc file you can zoom in and see the details of the route. The MS Brochure Maps that appear on the web pages are greatly reduced in size and suffer from that reduction in resolution. Click on the maps themselves or the links that appear directly below them and you will download a full resolution JPG file in which all the text is fully readable. These maps have been formatted to print on an 8.5x11 inch piece of paper. They are each between 100 and 200 kilobytes in size. One other warning. The bike riders will be using a couple of Bike trails. The Street Atlas route maps are for drivers in cars and show the street route that comes as close as possible to the tracks the riders will follow.
