Volunteer Signup

What Information We Want, and Why

Your call sign is REQUIRED! This is the Communications web site. If you wish to volunteer for the event in a non-communications capacity, go to the MS Web site (Click on the Logo above) and volunteer there. You help will be MORE than appreciated. It's a big event and they need all the help they can get.

If you do not have an amateur radio call sign but are planning to get a license so you can participate in this year's event,  wait until your call sign is issued to volunteer for a position!

We will NOT be assigning anyone to a position without an FCC amateur radio call sign. If you wish to discuss your participation in this year's event prior to the issuing of your amateur radio license, use one of the email links at the bottom of the page to contact either Jerry or myself.

Your EMAIL address is definitely requested. It makes acknowledging your signup much easier.

The City where you live tells me where to send your volunteer information. If you live in the Colorado Springs, Canon City or Pueblo areas, I will forward your volunteer information on to the coordinators of that area. If you live outside of the Denver area but want to volunteer for a "Global" assignment (an official, a truck, something or someone who moves over the course) note that in the position request and make some type of reference to it in the comments section.

Your USPS (snail mail) address is appreciated, as we share that with the MS folks and they usually send out a thank you letter, post event. But, it is not required.

You phone number is valuable to us. We might need to contact you regarding a change in assignments at the last minute. An email might not be read until it's too late. The phone number is not required, but if last minute changes are necessary, you might get a bit of a surprise when you report for your assignment.

Be sure to tell us your first 3 choices for a preferred position. If one is filled we'll try to get you into the next request on your list.

If you ONLY wish to work one of your preferred positions and don't want to work any other position, click on "NO" in  the "Accept any assignment if the above are filled" entry. If we can post you to one of your choices, we will. If not ... you get the day off. :-)

We try and get early volunteers into the assignments they request, but that is not always possible. We use a variety of "rules" for assigning folks to positions. If an  MS official WANTS YOU they 99 out of 100 times, they are going to get you. If you have worked the event before your "seniority" will help you drop into the position you request. It gets a bit tough at times, so we hope you will all be good sports about assignments and take what comes. We already (yep already in February of 2001) have had a conflict between two individuals who wanted the same spot. They both had long standing service records with the MS 150. It would have been difficult to pick one over the other. Fortunately, they were both very service oriented and offered to give the other guy the spot he/she wanted. This spirit of cooperation is GREATLY appreciated.

We won't be posting any specific requirements until we have a better handle on what positions will be available this year. Once those requirements become apparent, we will start posting an assignments database. The filled and unfilled spots will appear in this DB. Look it over and volunteer for something you would like to do.

Using the form below (non secure, but nothing financial here) fill out your personal info, callsign, full contact information (see privacy statement on the Home Page of this MS 150 site) and a positions you wish to fill. We will get back to you confirming your info.
