Version Information

Notes concerning updates, bug fixes and new features for each release can be found here.

Version 1.0.8 beta (17-Apr-2007)

bulletIncreased the hardcoded limit of stations from 500 to 5000.

Version 1.0.7 (5-March-2006)

bulletIf you don't have MapPoint the program crashes. I added a way to force the program to ignore MapPoint checks. Go to the setup screen, the folders tab and check "Force Disable MapPoint Check".
bulletUpon further analysis, Larry has led me to the problem that was causing the program crash. I could duplicate it and thus fix it.
bulletA bug could cause logging stations to randomly be enabled and disabled. Fixed
bulletA bug that essentially caused DIGIS on the logging screen to not be logged has been fixed.

Version 1.0.6 (15-Jan-2005)

bulletAs with any major release (for me anyway) there was a bug that made the program crash when attempting to open the setup screen and set a comm port. The program looks for an APRS-IS server list file and attempts to load it when you open this setup screen. One user, Larry Cerney, experienced crashes because he didn't have this file present on his system as would be the case for 100% of the users of v 1.0.5 since the file was never used prior to that version. I couldn't duplicate this problem on my systems, however, I added some additional checking. Perhaps this will fix the problem.

bulletA also added a readout to the Digi Data Screen that shows how many packets and how many stations selected digipeaters have sent/seen.

Version 1.0.5 (15-Jan-2005)

Lots of new stuff. The previously released version of ANS had 7261 lines of code written by the programmer. This one has 17,792 lines. So, the program has changed greatly. Anytime I make this much of a change (addition) it is bound to cause some bugs. Please report them. Overall, I think the program should be better behaved than the previous version. But, we'll see. It has been tested on two machines for a 24 hour run on each and not crashed.

There is one weirdness I haven't been able to track down. When running the program on the net (TCPIP) it seems to accumulate duplicate digipeater names for some stations. Theoretically this is impossible. The procedure to check for duplicates is so simple it simply can not be at fault. So, the problem lies else where. I'm looking into it. This duplication does not happen (at least so far) using a comm port (TNC). A separate dup checker that builds the text export for the digi screen will catch and remove the duplicates for the digipeaters, but NOT for the list of digis used by each station. Again, I'm working on it and should discover something pretty soon. In the meantime, this is a minor problem and the rest of the code seems well behaved.

Read the instructions on the download page about the possible need to download the full installation too.

bulletThe main new capability is a totally updated and actually usable interface to the internet based APRS-IS data feeds. This is covered here on the Comm/TCP/IP setup page.

bulletAnother upgrade, the logging capabilities of the program have been expanded and the interface to their use has been improved somewhat. Well, a lot. Wouldn't be hard to improve on the previous incarnation of the logging capabilities.

A downgrade ... I removed the ability to add stations to the logging lists from the Station Display page. It's a trade off but I really think the new system is light years ahead of the clunky interface previously available.

bulletNew - Charting data by minute

bulletNew - I've added a digipeater counter. The program will keep track of all digipeaters and the stations that use them. See the Digipeater Data page for the low down.

bulletThe program now counts a few additional types of packets including
bulletMessages
bulletObjects
bulletItems
bullet3rd party
bulletStatus
bulletQueries
bulletStation Capabilities
bulletTelemetry
bulletUser Defined
bulletTest/Invalid

Some of these types are broken out into their data fields. For instance, when a message packet arrives the addressee is saved to a field, and the text of the message is saved to a field. When a Station Summary or Station Detail Log is generated the data for these fields will be separately available. For all types, they are counted to generate totals. And the text of all types is saved as a field in the above report types.

bulletI've removed the "Satellite Stations tab" this was present in version 1.0.2 up to the present. However, it was just a kludge for me to use. It was taking up valuable real estate and had to go. Wasn't really something that belonged in this type of program in any case.

Version 1.0.4 (16-Dec-04)

bulletLarry Cerney wanted more comm ports available on the setup screen. I can't test this capability but I've added the ability to pick comm 1 to 8 now.   ... Larry confirms it works fine.

Version 1.0.3 (27-Apr-04)

bulletPractically each time I left this program I was writing out the spreadsheet files listed immediately below. So, I've added a couple of checkboxes on the Folders Page of the Setup screen where you can specify that these files are automatically written each time the program exits.
bulletUI-View stations detected and identified
bulletLarry Cerney [KØANI] discovered a bug on the setup screen. Fixed

Version 1.0.2 (December 16,2001)

bulletI missed an obvious capability. There was no way to save all that information on the display screens. So, I've added a new Export to CSV option under File on the main screen menu. If you click on [File/Save/Export CSV of Network] a spread sheet file will be written containing all that info. Details of this are available on the Report Files Page.
bulletAdded Ultimeter Wx decode ($ULTW)

Version 1.0.1 (November 12, 2001)

bulletFixed Screen displays when running under Windows XP with the Luna interface.
bulletSome stations were not being exported to Street Atlas files, specifically stations with zeros in their callsigns. Fixed
bulletAdded the ability to open one of the spreadsheet files by invoking an external spread sheet program from within APRS Net Spy. This is dependant on your spread sheet program's ability to be invoked with a filename after the program to launch that spreadsheet with the indicated file ie: "EXCEL.EXE misc_spread.XLS" would start Excel and display the misc_spread.XLS spread sheet file.

Version 1.0.0 (April 15, 2001)

bulletInitial public release
