CountDown Timer

I was listening to a local radio talk show host, Russ Johnson, at KOA in Denver. He usually starts his show with a countdown to the millennium. He seems to think it starts on January 1, 2001. I know the folks at the "beginning of time" didn't know zero from Sam, but ... well, I'm not going to go into this religious war. Anyway ...

For some reason, I decided to write my own count down timer.

When minimized to the task bar:

CountDown is a really simple program with one basic task. It compares the date and time of your computer to one entered into the program. Then it calculates the amount of time between the two dates and times. Values are updated once every second. Daylight savings time is taken into consideration.

Below the top line, each value is total, that is, Years is the total number of years until or since the event. Months is the total number of months, et cetera. So the display should be read it's "n" years or "n" months or "n" weeks, NOT it's "n" years AND "n" months AND "n" weeks.

When minimized, the display is cumulative meaning (in the above case) 116 days and one hour and four minutes and forty-eight seconds just like the top line of the program's display.

If you want, you can enter dates directly into the box at the bottom of the form. However a much better way to enter a date is via the setup screen.

Click on Setup on the main screen above and the setup dialog box opens.

Use Daylight Savings Offset, if checked, will properly calculate the actual elapsed time between dates. If you leave it unchecked there will be a 1 hour difference in dates that appear on opposite sides of the "daylight savings time date boundary".

You can select a previously entered date for use by pressing the down arrow in the Select a Date box.

If you want the program to always start with this date, then place a checkmark beside "Make Date Default".

If you don't want a particular date in the file, press delete and it will be removed.

If you wish to add a new date to your "database" you can fill out the Comment field, and select a new date and time from the controls in the middle of the form. Once you have the correct date and time set press, "Add This Date to List" and it will become available and active.

If you entered a Comment for the date, it will appear on the Title Bar of the Main Screen (as above "Countdown to - Millennium")..

Click the download button to go to the Countdown Download Page.
