The "Blizzard" of 4/11/2001So we had a late season snow storm. Out on the eastern plains of Colorado the wind moves at a pretty good clip at times. And, when you combine that with 12 inches of snow (estimated average accumulations), it piles up in pretty sizable drifts. Shown below is a photo taken at N39° 32.17' Normally the ground DROPS down from the road surface into a slight gully here. This is a high spot along Elbert County (Colorado) road 186 where the winds piled up some pretty deep drifts. It took all day for the county to get this road completely cleared. There were several other locations along the road where similar pile-ups of snow were just as deep. We also lost power for 12 hours. But, I consider myself lucky as some folks back in Denver still do not have power (12-18 hours after the storm hit).
I've just returned from dinner and all the roads are clear and in town, you'd never even know it had snowed. Of course, out east there is still a fair amount of the white stuff piled up on road sides where plows have deposited it.
